To reduce financial barriers, BHI wants to start a community health financing model that combines elements of community-based health insurance, social protection, and targeted subsidies for the most vulnerable by:
1- Establishing community health savings and loan groups linked to health insurance schemes.
2- Develop and deploy mobile health mHealth platforms to improve appointments scheduling, medication adherence, and remote consultations. In Uganda, where out-of-pocket payments accounts for 40 to 46 % of total health expenditure, this pooling function is urgently needed. The National Health Insurance Scheme Bill, introduced 2019 was passed in 2021. BHI intends to do community sensitisation and trust Building for 6 months explaining misconceptions, and demonstrate past success stories from Ishaka Kisiizi models.
